Bluegrass Seed is a family owned and operated business in Bardstown, KY, that started in the 1950's by Bobby Boblitt. In 2024 John Fenwick and Betty Raye became the sole owners of Bluegrass Seed. Although Bluegrass Seed has always been in Nelson County, many of our customers are from the surrounding counties and some even come from different states to get their supplies from BGS.
Whether you're fertilizing a small yard or many acres, Bluegrass Seed has the supplies for your needs. We can bring the truck and do it all at once or we we can rent some equipment for you to do it yourself. No matter the weather, our customers can stay completely out of it while they get their get feed, seed and fertilizer at Bluegrass Seed. Our store has the only drive-thru warehouse in the county.
Our Story
Local Family Owned Farm
John and Betty Raye began working in the feed business at just 5 and 6 years old. Doing little things like, loading the coke machine, mowing the lawn, sweeping the floor. "I remember my daddy paying me my very first paycheck.. I made $25 a week." Said Betty. Over the years John, Betty Raye have transformed Bluegrass Seed into what it is today. Many years of hard work and experience have most certainly paid off.
Bluegrass Seed handles fertilizer, chemicals, and lawn and garden needs. Our store has everything a farmer needs. While Bluegrass provides services for farmers with a large amount of livestock, the operation also provides needs for the small farmer or even for someone with a family pet. You can get one bag of horse feed or we can deliver four ton.
